The Victor Marching Blue Devils are a forward thinking organization that uses the pageantry arts as a vehicle to provide hundreds of students of the Victor Central School District with an environment that will promote the pursuit of personal excellence in artistic expression, physical achievement, and sportsmanship.

Victor Band Boosters Annual Chicken BBQ

April 22, 2008, Victor, New York......Come and enjoy the great food and fun at the Victor Band Booster’s Annual Chicken Barbecue, Tuesday, May 20, 2008, beginning at 3:00 p.m. (until sold out), at the Victor Junior High School Cafeteria,  953 High Street, Victor, New York.  Proceeds will benefit the Victor Marching Blue Devils Field Band, Color Guard and Percussion Ensemble.

Chicken dinners are $8.00 and include a barbequed (half) chicken, salt potatoes, cole slaw, rolls and beverage. Quarter chicken dinners are $6.00. Kids Meals are $4.00 and feature hamburger/cheeseburger or hot dog, chips, beverage and a cookie. Other delicious desserts are also available. Tickets can be purchased at the door while supplies last. Dine in or take out meals.  

“We are so thankful for the communities ongoing generous support of the band, guard and percussion ensemble, said Elaine Philipson, chairperson, Victor Band Booster Chicken Barbeque. “We encourage the community to come out and vote on the school budget and then enjoy dinner.”

Victor Percussion Ensemble Crowned State Champs
Victor, NY, April 6, 2007—The 2008 Victor Indoor Percussion Ensemble was crowned New York State PSA-1 Division State Champions at the New York State Percussion Circuit Championships held at Victor on Sunday,  April 6. More than 900 people attended the event.

In the circuit’s largest event ever, more than 600 students competed in the championships representing 22 percussion ensembles.  

The 2008 Victor show, Arte’ Espanola, featured the music of Chick Chorea’s Spanish Fantasy. The program was inspired by the life and works of Pablo Picasso.

In addition to being crowned state champions, Victor received two caption awards at the championship event: one for best bass drum line and one for best cymbal line.

“We want to thank the students and families who took part in this event as well as the Victor Band Boosters, volunteers, staff members, the Victor Central School District and the Victor community for their support in making this event a success,” said Chris Hawk, show coordinator. 

The Victor Indoor Percussion Ensemble is made up of 35 students in grades seven through 12. They began rehearsing for the season in November and have practiced each week for a total of more than 150 hours to prepare for weekly competitions and the state championships.

The ensemble is under the direction of Ted Mascari. Other staff includes: Mark Rider, Kirk Gay, J.J. Allen, Patsy VanKirk, Harrison Gordner, Shane Startzel, Janelle Cama, Ted Shawe, Chris Leonard, Susan Palomaki and Joe Taylor.

 

 
Victor Varsity Winter Guard Places Third in Circuit Championships and Wins Prestigious Award

Victor, NY…April 6, 2008….The Victor Blue Devils Winter Guard took third place in the 2008 Northeast Colorguard Circuit Championships held at the Gordon Field House on the campus of RIT on Saturday April 5th.  

ImageAfter winning back-to-back championships in 2006 and 2007 in the A1 category, the guard was promoted to the prestigious and highly competitive SA Class for the 2008 season.  The Blue Devils team achieved third place out of a field of seven; earning them the BRONZE medal with a score of 84.4 at the event.

In addition to this outstanding accomplishment, the guard was awarded the George Cowburn "Esprit de Corps Award.   “This award is one of the most prestigious awards a guard in the circuit can ever hope to receive,” said Lesley Rider, Director, Victor Winter Guard.  The recipient is chosen by the New York State Federation of Contest Judges who, in the judges opinion, best exemplifies the characteristics of the late George Cowburn.  Dedication to the activity, willingness to assist other members of the circuit, good sportsmanship, integrity, and honor are the criteria to be considered for this award.

Ulana Ainsworth, a Victor senior, also received a scholarship award presented by the Rainbow Guard for her dedication to the activity and the community.

In addition, the Victor Blue Devils Cadet Guard received a bronze medal in the cadet class at this event. The Cadet Guard has 22 members, 16 of whom are new to the activity.
